CASTLEBAY, ISLE OF BARRA

This contemporary painting was inspired from a photo I took while standing in the shallow waters of Castlebay, on the Isle of Barra. [My maiden name is McNeill and this is where my ancestors originate from.]

Like my Kisimul Castle painting, this is highly textured and rugged in parts and yet in the foreground, the shallow water is tranquil as it eases it's way through the rocks.

I have used quality artist texture paste to sculpt the scene and then painted on-top to create an atmospheric study.

This painting is also sculpted around all sides which really leads one's eye into the work from all angles; I have used acrylic paints and acrylic inks on boxed canvas.
